Caries detection dye was a b-i-g advance in detecting decay. We use this too.
The very latest technique in detecting decay is a LASER instrument – DIAGNOdent – which beams inside the tooth and fluoresces when it contacts decay, even at it’s absolute earliest stage.

These intraoral cameras together with fluorescence evaluators, differentiate healthy and diseased tooth structure, not visible to the naked eye or sometimes even on X-ray images.
Images are taken and can be viewed immediately on the monitor attached to your dental chair. So your dentist can show you the images of your teeth that have been part of his dental diagnosis.
Now we have the pinpoint accuracy of lasers and Intraoral cameras, and …. early treatment is conservative treatment, often using Air Abrasion – the No Needles, No Drill technique.
